3 weapons stolen from armory found in Bronx trash can

A homeless man in the Bronx has recovered some military grade weapons stolen from a Worcester armory last week, the New York Police Department confirmed Sunday.

While collecting cans and bottles in a park across from Yankee Stadium, the 51-year-old man discovered a trash bag containing three of the 16 missing firearms. The man, who was not identified, "did the right thing" by calling 911 and turning the weapons over to police, a police spokeswoman said.

The bag was found "a few days ago," according to a Bronx detective, although he was unable to confirm the exact date. Calls made to the FBI regarding the specific weapons found in the bag were not immediately returned.

James Walker Morales , 34, of Long Island, NY, was arrested on Thursday in connection with the Nov. 14 break-in and theft at the Army Reserve Center in Worcester. Officials said the former army reservist stole 10 Sig Sauer 9mm pistols and six M-4 combat rifles from the Lincoln W. Stoddard Army Reserve Center.
