After four members of the Band released a short Facebook video in which they play “Here Comes the Sun” in the snow, the Army’s musical ambassadors skyrocketed into online popularity. The video features four band members enthusiastically playing six-string instruments in a snow bank, laughing to themselves each time their lead singer says “here comes the sun.”
Since the video went live on the Army Field Band’s Facebook page, titled The Volunteers, it has reached over 6.6 million views and nearly 40,000 Likes.
However, their other musical videos are just as good. Taken from impromptu and official performances from across the globe, the videos generally feature band members covering well-known songs with the musicians’ personal touch of fun. One video, taken of Staff Sgt. Glenn Robertson’s drum solo during a performance last spring, looks like it could easily have been taken at a wild rock concert.
Despite their fun performances, the men and women of the U.S. Army Field Band serve an important mission. They are each part of an Army outreach effort to tell the Army story to the American public.
