While the families of four Marines mourn in Chattanooga, one sailor is fighting for his life.

Randall Smith, a logistics specialist in the U.S. Navy, sustained three gunshot wounds during the violent rampage at a Navy recruitment center Thursday. He had only just reenlisted and been transferred to Chattanooga. Smith went into surgery Thursday afternoon, and at 5 p.m. he was entered into a trauma intensive care unit.

Smith was shot in the arm, stomach and back, and bullets struck both his colon and liver. He is expected to undergo additional surgeries.

His family told reporters that Smith is “still fighting hard.” We hope that he pulls through and makes a full recovery.
