The headstone of a fallen soldier from Circleville was defaced, leaving family members outraged.

Spc. Gerald Robert “Bub” Jenkins was 19-years-old and, according to his father was, 11 days from finishing his first tour when he was killed while serving in Afghanistan on October 20, 2010. NBC4 initially incorrectly reported Jenkins died October 23, 2010.

He was buried with military honors at Forest Cemetery in Circleville.

Now, family members say someone used what looks like the back end of a claw hammer on Jenkins’ monument, damaging an engraving of his face.

“I can’t believe how sadistic someone can be to do something like this,” Bub’s father, Roger Jenkins told NBC4’s Rick Reitzel.

Circleville police are investigating the desecration.

Anyone with information about who may have damaged the grave is asked to call Circleville police at 740-477-8231.
